Animals Populations At Danger |

We humans have done so much damage to the planet earth that sometimes it is hard to believe. We have massively polluted the air, the seas, and the surface. We have even poisoned entire jurisdictions with radioactive waste which will be still here long before we are gone as a species. We need to internalize that, as humans, we are all responsible for this in some way. Most of the time, it is hard to intervene in this behavior and collaborate with each other. Doing something for our planet, even if it is small, is essential. The important thing is that others see our example and act to correct behavior that is harmful to our ecosystem. One of the first things we can do to change other people's minds is to educate them. Knowing about our ecosystem and everything that surrounds it is one step closer to the right path. Our planet's creatures are an essential part of our ecosystem and have been thoroughly affected by human behavior since ancient times. Animal populations and living conditions have been affected very hard by humans. So hard that, in some cases, we have come as far as having entire species become extinct. In this article, we will explore animals that can still be saved, if we act soon enough. Some of the animals mentioned here are closely related to others that have become extinct fairly recently. Let's try to act more responsibly, and hope the rest of humanity does the same. Whales Many species of whale are on the brink of extinction or endangered. Whales have been hunted massively by humans as early as the stone age. This has been known as whaling. Humans have very appreciated whale meat and whale byproducts. There is even famous literature that refers to whaling, and has sometimes been interpreted as a reflection of the damage humans have made to nature and its creatures. Whaling has been banned in many countries around the world. This is because their population is known to have substantially been reduced due to human activity and active hunting. Since 1982, an international restriction has been placed for whaling, and human populations have a limited amount of specimens that they are allowed to catch. Among whales, there is a species that are known to be the largest animal that ever lived: the blue whale. There are many types of whales. Some of them live in arctic and sub-arctic waters. The species of whale that are considered at risk of extinction are the fin whale, the blue whale. The sei whale and North Pacific right whale. Elephants In popular culture, there are lots of animals that are widely known for their peculiar characteristics and have a familiar charm to them. One of these is the elephant. With their large trunks and their intimidating tusks, they are the largest terrestrial animals that exist on earth. Elephants have had a long-lasting relationship with humans since ancient times. They have been used as working animals, as war animals and hunter for their ivory tusks. Elephants are now a major part of the circus and zoo dynamics. People love to see them. They are very intelligent and gracious animals. The population of African elephants has decreased significantly since the 70's. There are now considered endangered, and there are around 440,000 African elephants. Asian elephants are endangered too; their population has declined at about half of the original one since the 40's. There are estimates of the existence of 40,000 to 50,000 elephants all around Asia. Poaching is one of the main threats to the subsistence of Elephant species. The trading of ivory has been banned in China and the USA, but still continues as a clandestine practice. Giant panda bear This omnivorous creature mainly feeds on Bamboo plants. The problem with giant pandas is that they prefer bamboo over anything else and bamboo plants tend to complete their existence cycles and disappear in large quantities. Poaching of these iconic creatures is ceased in China, their land of origin. There are strict penalties for panda poaching. Pandas are considered vulnerable; there are approximately 1000 pandas in the wild.
